Spiral steel pipes. The welding method for spiral steel pipes is submerged arc welding. The forming process is the front-swing intermittent production. The unit speed includes the welding speed. The unit is composed of an uncoiler, a straightener, a centering device, a hydraulic shear, a milling and welding machine, a circular shear, an edge milling machine, a plate surface cleaning device, a delivery machine, a plate edge pre-bending device, a forming machine, internal welding, external welding, flash trimming, extraction, slag dumping, repair welding, end facing and chamfering, hydrostatic testing, finished product inspection, and oil removal collection. The whole process of submerged arc welding for spiral steel pipes is as follows: Principle of submerged arc welding for spiral steel pipes: Submerged arc welding uses arc thermal energy for welding. Different from manual metal arc welding, the welding wire for submerged arc welding is bare without any coating. The flux for submerged arc welding is pre-laid at the place to be welded. The welding wire extends into the flux, and the arc burns under the flux. When the welding wire contacts the workpiece and the start button is pressed, at the moment when the welding wire and the workpiece are energized, the welding wire retracts, the arc is ignited, the welding carriage moves forward, and the welding wire is continuously fed downward to maintain the arc burning under the flux layer, forming a welding pool below the arc. Around the arc, the flux melts to form a cavity. This cavity and the welding pool keep moving forward, and the metal behind the welding pool solidifies, forming a continuous weld. Since this process is carried out under the flux, we can't see it with our naked eyes. It can be seen with the help of X-ray photography.
