The consumable nozzle is the core component of the consumable-nozzle electroslag welding process. It serves as both a current conductor and a source of filler metal. During welding, the nozzle and the welding wire melt together into the weld seam; this process enables the vertical welding of thick steel plates in a single pass without edge preparation and is commonly used in the fabrication of box-section beams and columns for steel structures, as well as in heavy machinery manufacturing.
