3M 4229P is a dark‑grey closed‑cell acrylic foam double‑sided pressure‑sensitive tape with dual‑different adhesive formula, 0.76 mm total thickness and red PE liner. It is specially developed for automotive exterior bonding. The foam substrate features stress‑dispersion, shock‑absorption and waterproof sealing performance. It can replace screws, rivets and welding to avoid component damage and achieve beautiful appearance. Rolls, sheets and custom precision die‑cut parts per customer drawings are available.

Product Features
Dual‑different adhesive formula. Liner‑side offers high initial & final adhesion to automotive clear coat & painted surfaces. Matched with adhesion promoter, the other side bonds stably with low‑surface‑energy plastics such as PP and TPO.
Viscoelastic foam delivers excellent stress‑relaxation, absorbs stress caused by thermal expansion and contraction, resisting debonding for long‑term service.
High shear strength and peel strength; outstanding plasticizer resistance to prevent adhesive migration & failure on PVC substrates.
Superior outdoor weather resistance: UV‑resistance, humidity resistance, temperature cycling resistance, anti‑aging for long‑time outdoor application.
Waterproof sealing and shock‑absorbing performance, fills tiny gaps between mating parts.
Good conformability for curved and irregular components.
Support precision die‑cutting, available for adhesive pads, strips, gaskets & special‑shape parts with burr‑free edges for direct assembly.

Usage Notes
Keep substrate surface clean, dry and oil‑free before bonding.
Adhesion promoter is recommended for low‑surface‑energy plastics like PP and TPO to achieve better bonding effect.
Apply sufficient pressure after lamination for optimal bonding performance.
