Dinotefuran is widely used on crops such as rice, cotton, vegetables, and fruit trees to control pests including Hemiptera (planthoppers, aphids), Thysanoptera (thrips), Coleoptera (striped flea beetles), and Lepidoptera (striped rice stem borers). Application rates range from 14.82 to 37.05 g/hm² (based on a 22% micro-encapsulated suspension formulation), utilizing either foliar spraying or soil treatment.
In 2020, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences identified differences in toxicity between its chiral isomers: the dextrorotatory isomer primarily provides insecticidal activity, while the levorotatory isomer exhibits higher toxicity to honeybees.
Public Health Pest Control
In non-agricultural settings, dinotefuran demonstrates significant efficacy against public health pests such as cockroaches, termites, and houseflies. Formulations include 0.1%–0.5% cockroach baits, which function through mechanisms involving attraction-based killing and chain-reaction elimination.
