GE SR489-P5-A20-E Generator Management Relay
GE SR489-P5-A20-E generator management relay
I. Comprehensive generator protection function
Electrical fault protection
Overcurrent protection: Supports phase current, negative sequence current and zero sequence current protection, and can be configured with inverse-time or time-limited characteristics to quickly detect faults such as short circuits and overloads.
Overvoltage/undervoltage protection: Real-time monitoring of the generator terminal voltage. When the voltage exceeds or falls below the set threshold, the protection action is triggered to prevent equipment damage or abnormal operation.
Frequency protection: Monitor the system frequency, respond to fluctuations in the grid frequency, and ensure that the generator operates within the allowable frequency range.
Differential protection: By comparing the currents on each side of the generator, it detects internal short-circuit faults with high sensitivity and prompt action.
Abnormal working condition protection
Demagnetization protection: Monitor the excitation current of the generator and act promptly in case of demagnetization faults to prevent the stability of the system from being affected.
Reverse power protection: Prevents the generator from running as an electric motor and protects the prime mover from damage.
Over-excitation protection: Limits the excitation current of the generator to prevent the core from overheating.
Ground fault protection
Sensitive grounding protection: Detects grounding faults in the system and can be configured with a high-sensitivity mode. It is suitable for systems that are not grounded or grounded through arc suppression coils.
Neutral line overcurrent protection: Monitor the neutral point current of the generator to protect the windings from ground faults.
Ii. precise monitoring and measurement functions
Electrical parameter measurement
Real-time measurement of three-phase voltage, current, active power, reactive power, power factor, frequency and other parameters, with an accuracy as high as 0.2%.
Supports harmonic analysis and can detect harmonic components from the 2nd to the 31st order, helping to assess power quality.
Temperature monitoring
It is equipped with 12 built-in thermal resistance (RTD) inputs, which can be directly connected to the generator winding temperature sensor to monitor the winding temperature in real time and prevent overheating faults.
It supports temperature over-limit alarm and tripping functions to ensure that the generator operates within a safe temperature range.
Event recording and fault recording
Record the most recent 1000 events, including protection actions, switch status changes, etc., with a time resolution of 1ms.
It supports the fault recording function, which records the voltage and current waveforms before and after the fault, facilitating fault analysis and location.
Iii. Flexible control and automation functions
Switch control
6-channel programmable C-type output relay, with a contact capacity up to 10A, can control circuit breakers, contactors and other equipment.
It supports the automatic reclosing function and automatically restores power supply after the instantaneous fault is cleared.
Logical programming
Built-in programmable logic controller (PLC), supporting programming languages such as ladder diagram (LD) and Function Block Diagram (FBD) of IEC 61131-3 standard.
Users can customize logical control strategies to achieve complex automated control functions (such as generator parallelism and load distribution).
Concurrent detection
It supports the automatic synchronization function, monitors the voltage, frequency and phase difference between the generator to be connected and the power grid, and automatically closes the switch when the conditions are met to achieve smooth grid connection.
Iv. Strong communication and integration capabilities
Multi-protocol support
There are 2 RS485 communication ports, supporting Modbus RTU and DNP 3.0 protocol, with a maximum baud rate of up to 19200bps.
An optional Ethernet interface is available, supporting the IEC 61850 communication protocol to meet the communication requirements of smart substations and distributed energy systems.
Remote monitoring and management
Remote parameter setting, status monitoring and fault diagnosis can be achieved through the communication interface.
Support SNTP time synchronization to ensure the temporal consistency of system event records.
Interface between analog and digital quantities
4-channel isolated 4-20mA analog input/output, which can be connected to external instruments or control systems.
7 configurable digital inputs for monitoring the status of external switches or sensor signals.
V. Humanized Design and Ease of Use
Intuitive human-machine interface
The 40-character backlit LCD display can simultaneously show multiple sets of electrical parameters and status information.
The front panel is equipped with a numeric keypade and status indicator lights, supporting local parameter setting and operation without the need for external tools.
Modular structure
Compact design, small in size (21.6×22.4×25.2cm), convenient for installation in switch cabinets or control panels.
It supports hot-swappable modules, making maintenance convenient and reducing downtime.
Environmental adaptability
Operating temperature range: -20°C to + 60°C, suitable for harsh industrial environments.
It complies with standards such as IEC 60255 and IEEE C37.90, has strong anti-interference ability, and ensures stable operation in an electromagnetic interference environment.
Vi. Typical Application Scenarios
Power station: Applicable to the protection and control of generators in various power stations such as thermal power plants, hydropower stations, and gas-fired power stations.
Distributed energy: Support generator management in distributed energy systems such as wind power and photovoltaic power to ensure grid connection stability.
Industrial self-provided power supply: Provides protection and monitoring for the self-provided generators of large industrial enterprises to ensure the continuity of production.
Marine power system: Meeting the special working environment requirements of Marine generators and ensuring the safety of Marine power supply.
