The body is a deep rounded bowl with a smooth interior, so wet sludge slides off the curve when the bucket is tipped instead of building up in corners and around ribs.
The cutting edge is plain, with no teeth, so the ditch bottom and the banks are cut cleanly rather than raked over, and wet material is scooped instead of combed.
A bolted wear part runs along the leading edge of the side plates, so the part that wears against the ditch wall is unbolted and renewed while the shell stays as it is.
The bucket is carried on the linkage of a twenty tonne class machine, which is what lets it take a full cut of wet material instead of working half loaded.
Pin bosses at the head are tied together across the top and the bucket needs no auxiliary circuit, so it is a plain mechanical attachment that is hosed out and put away at the end of a shift.
