1045 has a higher carbon content (0.42-0.50%) compared to mild steel like 1020 (0.18-0.23%). This gives 1045 significantly higher strength, hardness, and wear resistance, but slightly lower ductility. It is better suited for load-bearing and wear-resistant applications such as shafts and gears.
2. Can the rod be heat treated after purchase?
