The shape is the point of the tool: a wide shallow body at a straight edge strips and carries a level surface, which is not what a deep digging bucket does.
There are no teeth on the edge, so the bottom of the cut is left flat and clean instead of being left grooved by points.
A large diameter tube runs across the mouth between the head brackets, tying the wide shell together along the line it needs it most.
The cutting edge is a bolted part, so the wear line on the ground is renewed as a piece rather than by welding new plate into the bottom.
Nothing has to be plumbed in: the bucket mounts to the machine linkage as a plain mechanical attachment, and the cutting edge is the only part that wears.
