When a hospital pathology department plans a new lab or renovates an existing one, the storage question is never just "which cabinet." It is "how do we store both slides and blocks together in a way that makes sense for the space, the workflow, and the budget."
A single cabinet cannot do both. Slides need horizontal grooved tracks. Paraffin blocks need vertical partitioned grids. The storage logic is different, the hardware is different, and trying to combine them in one drawer creates a mess.

Why a Set, Not Two Separate Purchases
Many hospitals buy the slide cabinet from one supplier and the block cabinet from another. Two years later, the cabinets do not match. One is taller, one is narrower, the colors are different, the drawer pulls are different. The storage room looks like a discount furniture lot.
A cabinet set is designed from the start to be placed together. Same height, same width, same depth, same color, same drawer hardware. Whether you place them side by side or stack them, the visual is clean and professional.
More importantly, the internal capacity is balanced. A slide cabinet with 20 drawers (33,000 slides) paired with a block cabinet with the same external footprint (33,000 blocks) means the two collections grow at roughly the same rate. You expand both at the same time, with the same budget cycle.
Two Cabinets, One System

Both cabinets share the same external dimensions: H1520 × W515 × D480 mm. They can be placed side by side (total width 1030 mm) or stacked (slide cabinet on bottom, block cabinet on top, total height 3040 mm — two 4-section stacks).
The choice depends on your storage room layout.
Configuring the Set for Your Hospital
Not every hospital needs the same configuration. Here are the three most common setups we supply:
Configuration A: Side-by-Side (standard)
Slide cabinet: 4 sections, 20 drawers, 33,000 slides
Block cabinet: 4 sections, 20 drawers, 33,000 blocks
Placement: side by side against the wall

Best for: smaller hospitals or departments with limited floor space
Configuration C: Mixed (expandable)
Year 1: 1 slide cabinet (4 sections, 20 drawers) + 1 block cabinet (2 sections, 10 drawers)
Year 2: Add 1 more block cabinet (2 sections, 10 drawers) when block archive grows
Year 3: Add a second slide cabinet if slide volume increases
Best for: new hospitals or departments phasing in their storage capacity
Construction: Cold Rolled Steel, Hospital-Grade
Both cabinets in the set are built from cold rolled steel with electrostatic powder coating. Hospital pathology departments run tissue processors, stainers, and cover slippers daily. The air has formaldehyde vapor, xylene vapor, and high humidity from water baths and steamers.
Powder coating resists all of these. It does not peel, does not off-gas, and can be wiped down with standard lab disinfectants.
The stainless steel base is the same on both cabinets. Hospital floors get mopped daily. Water pools near the walls. Painted steel bases rust from the bottom up within 2–3 years. Stainless does not.
Drawer Details: Label Holders on Every Drawer
Each drawer in both cabinets has a removable label holder on the front panel. In a hospital setting, the labeling system usually follows the department's archive policy:
By year and quarter (e.g., "2024 Q1 Slides", "2024 Q1 Blocks")
By alphabetical range (e.g., "A–F Cases", "G–M Cases")
By organ system (e.g., "GI", "Pulmonary", "Breast")
With 40 label holders total (20 in the slide cabinet + 20 in the block cabinet), you can build a detailed filing system that any staff member can navigate without training.
Installation and Assembly
Each section of each cabinet ships fully assembled. No flat-pack, no allen wrenches, no "some assembly required" note buried in the manual.

Q: Can I buy just the slide cabinet or just the block cabinet from the set? A: Yes. The set is a configuration, not a bundled product. You can order one or the other, or both in any quantity.
Q: Do the slide and block cabinets lock together when stacked? A: They align with interlocking corners but do not require mechanical locking. For high-security environments, we can provide bolt-together hardware as a custom option.
Q: What if my hospital's archive policy changes and I need to relabel everything? A: The label holders are removable and replaceable. Print new label inserts and slide them in — no tools needed.
Q: Can the cabinets be placed in a hot room (above 30°C)? A: Yes. The steel body handles heat fine. For paraffin blocks, long-term storage above 30°C is not recommended — the wax can soften. Consider climate control for the storage room.
