A small grab earns its place by picking up what a bucket cannot hold: brush, branches, pipe, stones, scrap and mixed debris. It is a handling attachment for compact carriers, not a digging tool, and it is specified that way.
With one cylinder, the grab needs only one auxiliary circuit and one set of hoses. On a compact machine, the limiting factor is often the number of available circuits rather than the attachment itself.
A non-rotating head removes the rotation motor, the swivel and their seals from the equation. Less to leak, less to service, and fewer parts to go wrong on a machine that works short cycles all day.
The jaws are welded plate with reinforcement strips welded across the outer faces and gussets at the pivots. A grab is loaded from two directions at once when it clamps, so the reinforcement has to run along both load paths.
