Steel Blueprint Cabinet 5 Drawers Anti-Tip — A0 Full-Extension Drawing Storage for Design Studios and Offices
Design studios and offices accumulate large-format drawings faster than most people expect. A running project generates 50-200 A0 sheets—concept sketches, CAD prints, markups, redlines. Storing them flat, sorted, and accessible means having the right steel blueprint cabinet in the room from the start. This one is a 5-drawer, A0-capable unit with full-extension slides, an anti-tip interlock, and a central lock bar.
Picking the Right Size
The drawer tray is sized for A0 paper—841 × 1189mm, the standard engineering and architecture sheet. The cabinet footprint is 1300mm wide by 930mm deep, which fits against a wall or between two workstations. Height is 650mm per section, low enough that the top drawer stays below seated eye level.
A0 is the largest sheet most offices handle. One-up drawings, plotter output, survey maps, and renderings all fit without folding or trimming. Offices that work primarily with A1 or A2 sheets can stack multiple drawings per drawer.
Five Drawers per Section
Each section has five drawers. That is enough to separate projects, phases, or disciplines within a single footprint:
Project separation. Floor plans in drawer one, elevations in drawer two, sections in drawer three. Each drawer holds several hundred sheets flat.
Phase separation. Schematic design in drawer one, design development in drawer two, construction documents in drawer three. No mixing, no flipping through stacks.
Personnel separation. In a shared studio, each drawer can hold one team member's active set.
When five drawers are not enough, sections stack. Two sections = ten drawers, three sections = fifteen drawers. The top section indexes onto the lower section with locating pins. No frame kit, no adapter.
Full-Extension Access
The slides extend the drawer fully. At 930mm deep, a partial-extension slide leaves 300-400mm of the back unreachable without leaning in. With full-extension slides, the entire tray is accessible.
The slides are ball-bearing type, rated for the 150kg dynamic load—pull is smooth even with a full stack of bond paper or vellum. The drawer holds position when extended and does not droop at the front edge.
Load Rating
150kg per drawer. A ream of A0 bond paper (500 sheets) weighs approximately 5-6kg. Stack ten reams in a drawer—still under half the rated load. The same drawer can hold a full set of A0 Mylar sheets (heavier material) or thick presentation boards without issue.
The 150kg rating applies at full extension. The slide and drawer assembly are tested at maximum load with the drawer pulled all the way out.
Anti-Tip
The cabinet uses a mechanical interlock. When one drawer opens, the others lock. A single open drawer brings the cabinet weight forward, but the interlock prevents multiple drawers from shifting the center of gravity past the tipping point.
For installations where the cabinet sits against a wall without floor anchoring, the interlock is the primary safety feature. For seismic-rated installations or high-traffic areas, optional floor brackets bolt the cabinet to the ground.
Surface and Finish
The cabinet body is cold-rolled steel. Exterior surfaces are powder-coated in white. The coating is electrostatic—the powder is charged and sprayed onto the grounded steel, then baked in an oven. The result is a coating that bonds to the metal rather than sitting on top of it.
White reflects light and keeps the cabinet from dominating a room visually. In a design studio where wall space is used for pin-ups and reviews, a white cabinet blends into the background.
The front of each drawer has a recessed handle and a label slot. Labels slide in from the top and stay visible without protruding.
Locking
A central lock bar runs vertically inside the cabinet. One key turn engages all five drawers simultaneously. The same key unlocks all five. For multi-cabinet installations, keyed-alike locks are available—one key opens every cabinet in the room.
The lock is a standard cam lock. Replacement keys are cut from the code on the lock face.
Studio and Office Setup
A single-section cabinet works for a small office. The 650mm height allows a desk or table to sit next to or above the cabinet without blocking the work surface.
Multiple cabinets in a row create a continuous filing wall. The white finish and uniform height keep the row looking like built-in furniture rather than separate boxes.
For larger offices, two or three sections stacked vertically provide 10-15 drawers in the same floor footprint. The locating pins between sections hold alignment. Each section independently locks.
Delivery
The cabinet ships fully assembled. No assembly required. The unit is wrapped in moisture-resistant film with foam edge protectors on the corners. Keys and optional brackets ship in a sealed bag inside the cabinet.
A 40HQ container holds approximately 50-60 single-section units. For stacked orders, two sections ship as one unit if specified at order time.
